Whitehall Trip (First Fish Of 2015)

Finally had the time to do some proper ice fishing on my own today. I decided to head to Whitehall, a water body I have been meaning to hit for some time. The day started of pretty slow, but slowly but surely, flags started popping. I eventually managed to put about 5 Chain pickerel on the ice, three on the tip ups, and two on my jigging rod. No bruisers yet, but apparently there is enough of a population there to keep looking! Live shiners were the ticket today.

Pickerel! Catch

  • # of Fish Caught: 5
  • Water Type: freshwater
  • Type of Fish: Chain Pickerel
  • Fish Length (Avg): 13 inches
  • Fish Length (Max): 14 inches
  • Bait Type: Minnow Check Prices
  • Bait Details: I found that using medium shiners with a bass hook hooked through the back of the tail worked best. The bait seems to stay much more lively that way.
  • Location Details: I tried to stay primarily in the shallow areas, as pickerel seem to cruise these areas through winter.
